In the 10th edition, the International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Contest - CA Ovibeja Prize, with the exclusive support of Crédito Agrícola, positioned as the 1st best in the world along with the prestigious "Mario Solinas", works as a stimulus for the culture of Portuguese olive oils. Competitiveness and Internationalization stand out among the challenges that open the way for new markets. The results of the competition, which is already in the 10th edition, have revealed high quality olive oil participations from the most varied geographies in the world, which contributes to enrich the contest and its purposes.
As set out in the Regulation, extra virgin olive oil admitted to the invitation to tender must belong to the 2020/2021 market year and must satisfy the quality and authenticity requirements laid down in Regulation (EEC) No 2568/91 and its amendments.
The olive oil tendered must come from a homogeneous lot of at least 1500 liters and be stored in a single tank. Each competitor will only be able to submit an Extra Virgin Olive Oil in each category (Intense Green Fruity, Medium Green Fruity, Light Green Fruity, Mature Fruity and olive oils from the Southern Hemisphere).
The CA Ovibeja Prize Contest complies with the standards set by the International Olive Council regarding the conditions for the collection, storage and selection of samples. Amongst the stringent standards are the authentication of the samples by an independent entity, the use of a dark glass container, without a label and a tamper-proof opening system, the use of an anonymous identification code, and the oils are also accompanied by a chemical analysis and an organoleptic analysis issued by a panel recognized by the IOC.
